RedBack

I actually half did this last night and finished it this morning. I think it might make a nice birthday card for the maternal one.

It's from that bunch of leftover dusty-red mountboard I found behind the desk. Gives it an interesting sort of look, I think.

I do love to re-visit some oldies.
I just squeed so hard I think I broke something.

Cute, cute Daddy!Huu )

Well, it's pissing it down so any chances of going into town to *purchase* a b'day gift for the maternal have vanished.
Instead I have presented her with a birthday-cake-a-day-early and may paint a mini which is going to double as a birthday card.

Sneaky cunning, yes?

Yes.

Useful too cause she seems to have a mild version of whatever stomach ook Kat's had and doesn't actually want to eat anything except cake. So it's a dual-purpose one therefore. And hopefully she'll eat it before I do because the last thing I need right now is more damn cake. *pats tummy*
The oven's seemingly a bit on the piss right now though. It's been incinerating rather than baking anything that goes in there despite being on the same temperature setting that I always use. I turned it down about 20 degrees (that's Centigrade, kids) and it seems to be working a lot better now. Still a touch fierce on the top but better than it was.

And now... I shall go hoover and contemplate the laundry pile that never seems to get any smaller.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mobobocita!!!! This last year has been rough, chaotic, and full of changes. May the next one be less of that, and more fun, joy, and happiness. Best wishes for a great and happy day.

Mods, please delete this if inappropriate. Apologies if this has been done before; I looked around and didn't find a post like this one.

Some very helpful users in the past have provided methods for applying captions to images to create the magical macros we all know and  love. It occurred to me that we could perhaps share resources starting from the other end. In other words, where do you find your pictures?

Just to let you all know that I'm coping with cramps, pet illnesses (that is, illnesses of pets, not favourite ailments of my own), fic challenges and beta work, so I'm slow to respond to just about everything, at the moment. Rest assured that you are not forgotten or ignored, just being spared more specific moaning and groaning and a brain that isn't good for much in the way of intelligent response. You are all, in fact, deeply missed.

Speaking of deeply missed, if anyone happens to locate my brain, please let me know how much it would cost to FedEx it to me.

Forest land is sort of a novelty to me, as I live in a town which is half rural, just not the half I live in.  That's one reason I love New Hampshire, because it's largely - and proudly - rural.  I don't know that I could live there (because they have frozen water five months out of the year) but every time I visit my aunt and uncle I start having romantic fantasies about pulling stakes.  But no, I don't think I could ever leave my state for love or money, although True Love would be tempting.  Actually, California has a great deal of geographical diversity, but because it's so large it's difficult to experience it all even in one's lifetime unless one is willing to travel.  I've been all over the state, so I know, but I don't see it every day, of course.

Ok, so I slacked and didn't reserve a room early for this year, last year. After calling on a daily basis, the Hilton finally has a room available....at $324 a night. For five nights the bill comes to $1,850 or so.

This isn't a huge suite or anything like that. Just a standard room.

So, anyone have an extra room at a reasonable rate? Anhyone want a room at an unreasonable rate?

And round two...

...of the storms has arrived. And more is still on the way...what's left of our tree is almost bending completely over. The one good thing here is we're on the leeward, rather than the windward side of our building, so we're not catching the full brunt.

It's still a bit leery, though...

The fun never stops, I tell ya.

Lightning Striking Again...

  • Jul. 8th, 2008 at 9:09 PM
Okay, so I have this instinct about storms. I can usually tell when they're coming and I always know the bad ones.

I was puttering at the apartment, waiting to go pick up [info]gaelbrady, when all of a sudden, I hear a crack of thunder. I go to our balcony door and stick my head out. One direction looks clear, then I look the other way. The sky was so black and tinged with green that I was out the door within 30 seconds, racing to the campus. Better to hang out in her office for a bit than try to drive through the Apocalypse.

Thankfully, I'm driving away from the approaching storm front, giving me a little extra time, but all of the other drivers seem to have lost their ever-loving minds and are being particularly stupid. And of course, I hit every single red light on the way. I whip into a parking spot just as the rain starts falling and I sprint for the building...ever tried running uphill into a 40mph gusting wind? NOT FUN!

I'm only half-soaked when I get upstairs and collapse on the couch in [info]gaelbrady's office as all hell cuts loose outside. We wait until it passes over, then head home. I notice there is a lot of small tree debris on the road home...and then we pull into our complex.

Trees down everywhere. At least ten of them...including the two flanking the walkway into our building. But it wasn't the wind, folks...it was a double lightning strike ten feet away from our apartment.

Yeowza pics here. )

So yeah, that was fun.

In other news...frustrating bass lesson tonight, being overloaded at work, and trying to cram bunches of stuff in before visitors come on Friday. Oy!

Quote of the Day -- "Bono always sounds like he's singing Mass." -- from a Yahoo!Music list of the Top Ten Best Anthem Bands...U2 was number one...but Queen was not to be found. OMGWTF?!?!?

  • Jul. 8th, 2008 at 8:46 PM
Sooooo, because I'm SUPER SUPER bored, I'm going to start posting a series called, "I Want to Date Peter Tork!" I was watching one of those stupid love-game-show-type-things on VH1 and I was thinking, "They should make one of these with Peter Tork." SOooo that's what I'm doing. . . .ONLY....YOU'RE the ones who are going to choose who gets voted off! SO read this first episode and tell me in the comments who you want voted off! I'll write it in at the beginning of the next fic! :D This is pretty much a PG rated series.......for now.......especially this one. Nothing really objectable in it. . . .oh wait....I think there's a drug reference in there somewhere.....relax guys it's okay. I promise.

See what you think!

ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT.
(American Idol Tour segment)
ZOMGZZZZZ WATCH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ummmmm. Nevermind? Where was I supposed to be at? That was all shot at the LA show last night :-* Now I'm utterly confused. DO I HAVE A SUPERTWIN?

Review Pt.2 Update: It's coming! I'm writing up my review (Just finished with Carly's set) and will hopefuly be up late tomorrow. The final product is also delayed due to the fact that I am now paranoid about my photos and am starting to go back and *shudder* watermark everything. It really is a pain in the ass. FUCK IT. I've just decided to fuck watermarking. It's taking too fucking long. If people are going to re-post my pictures, believe me. I'll take care of it.
Oh well. Watch this space!!

3-Year Anniversary as a Musician

  • Jul. 8th, 2008 at 5:11 PM
Three years ago today was my last day at the "day job". That's when I became a full-time musician. While I am thankful that UT Austin gave me the job that guided me to my musical career. I can't say that I miss it a moment. I love recording music, playing it, podcasting, and getting to know people.

-- Quote of the Week: "Cats are smarter than dogs. You can't get eight cats to pull a sled through snow." Jeff Valdez.

-- Marrus Art. Last Fall, my friend Marrus, a brilliant fantasy artist, made the funniest sketch for the cat lover who doesn't sleep much. She called it "Furry Sandbag Torture Chamber". I begged her to put something on Cafepress. She finally did. Get your copy now.

-- Ringtones available on iTunes. I was just surfing iTunes and noticed that several songs had Ringtones. So if you're looking for any. Check it out.

-- CD of the Week: Irish to the Core by The Wolfe Tones. This is the album that started all for me. Someone lent me a cassette copy when Andrew and I used to play on the South Mall at UT. I loved. Really quirky voices and fun music. "Rock on Rockall" is one of my favorites. I keep meaning to learn that song. Hmm... Need to work on that.

-- Still working on the Celtic MP3s Music Magazine. I got side track by the next item on this list. But the magazine is still coming together. In fact, I'm transferring all the old CD reviews to one blog, the Free Irish Music Downloads blog. You can now sign up to get email updates. This will be CD reviews and free MP3s as soon as they are posted! It's a cool service from Feedburner. So check it out.

Now the reason for my sidetracking...

-- What Color Is Your Dragon? Folk Music with Delusions of Grandeur. The album is done. I'm sending it off to the printers any day now. W00t! You can listen and download "The Lusty Young Sith" via the MarcSongs Podcast. Different from the pre-sales of other CDs, this one is not yet on sale. Hope to have it out next month.

Also, don't forget...

-- Mark Your Calendar - Cat CD Release Party in Austin and New Orleans. One of the first things I did upon feeling better was to secure some CD release parties for Whiskers in the Jar: Irish Songs for Cat Lovers. The CD is now on CD Baby and iTunes.
  • Austin CD Release. Right now, I have an Austin release at the Cactus Cafe on Weds, July 30th. Please note, that this was not the original date reported. But it is the correct date! I really need a LOT of help getting the word out about this gig. It's a benefit for Thundering Paws. So please tell your friends and make sure you head out there for this gig.

  • New Orleans CD Release. No sooner had I solidified the Cactus, when my friend Jamie helped me score a CD release in New Orleans at the Saltwater Grill on Sat, July 26 in the afternoon. It benefits the LSPCA. There's also a house concert up in Robert, LA for those who want a more intimate show.

  • Please consider posting a review if you own Whiskers in the Jar.
-- Check me out on Myspace, SoundClick, Demand a Show on Eventful, Wikipedia, Facebook, Livejournal, Sonicbids, and DeviantArt. And if you'd like a CD...

Stuff for sale! (and booklet question)

  • Jul. 8th, 2008 at 5:38 PM
Hello all!  This is my first time posting here, but this will be my fifth DragonCon.  I was posting to let you all know I have some stuff up for sale on eBay that some of you might be interested in.  I am trying not only to get some extra money for fabric for new costumes, but I am also moving in October and trying to eliminate some of the stuff I have.

Auctions include costume jewelry, some Luna Lovegood accessories (radish earrings, cork necklace, lion hat), an Orc helmet from LOTR, some LOTR action figures, fabric remnants, and some other random stuff.  I will be adding more stuff over the next few days, so keep checking back.  I do combine shipping - any questions, please ask.  My username there is andaxiamoonstar - here is a link:  http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZandaxiamoonstar

----------------------------

Second thing is about the press update/booklet we were supposed to receive.  It seems from reading others' posts that everyone has received theirs, but I have yet to see it.  I pre-registered back in February, and I did get my postcard.  Just curious as to whether there are still people who haven't gotten theirs or if I was the oddball (wouldn't be the first time!  :P  )

It's getting close - whee!
